34% drop during festive week
PUTRAJAYA: The number of dengue cases reported during the festive week from Oct 30 to Nov 5 dropped by 34.2% to 542 from 824 the previous week. The Health Ministry's Disease Control Department director, Dr Ramlee Rahmat, said the trend of the disease had subsided. He said there were two deaths last week, involving a three-month-old girl in Penang and a 67-year-old man in Kelantan. "We are happy as the worsthit states, such as Selangor, Penang and Kuala Lumpur, have seen a drastic decline in the number of cases," Ramlee told a press conference yesterday. Only Kelantan, Malacca and Putrajaya had an increase in the number of cases, and 228 patients are still receiving med ical treatment in general hospitals. He said that despite the improving situation, the min istry will carry on fogging exercises and checks on premises and promote gotong royong.
