Agent missing with tourists passports
PUTRAJAYA: Nine Taiwanese tourists are returning home today with a bad experience after a "local tour agent" went missing with their passports and return air tickets. The nine lodged a police report with the Dang Wangi police station when they could not locate the agent, whom they could identify only as "Jimmy". The tourists, who arrived here on Oct 28, were originally scheduled to return home on Monday. Immigration enforcement director Datuk Ishak Mohamed said they had declared their documents stolen last Thursday. He said "we have no jurisdiction to trace the missing agent who was appointed via an agency in Taiwan". "It was a private arrangement between the tourists and the agency in Taiwan. If the agent works for a registered tour agency, then we have the mechanism to track him down," Ishak said. He said the nine tourists had to delay their return home to apply for special passes from the Immigration Department before making formal applications for replacement travel documents to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kuala Lumpur. Ishak said they should lodge an official complaint with the Taiwan authorities to help ensure that only responsible agents and individuals were appointed as tour agents. "We are concerned because such incidents will also jeopardise our country's image as a holiday destination," he added.
