What is a smart card?
Is a standard credit card-sized plastic token within which a
microchip has been embedded. The chip is the engine room of the smart
card, and indeed is what makes it "smart". Capable to perform
a wide range of functions, including data processing, storage and file
management.
What is the technology behind MyKad?
The key technology behind this smart card system are the chip and biometrics
technology.
What are the security features of the card?
The card is designed with sophisticated physical and embedded
security features to prevent unauthorized access and tampering of stored
information. These features include the card authentication using symmetric
key cryptography, a multi-applications Operating System with firewalls
and a secure chip platform.
How does MyKad benefit the public?
MyKad improves the ease with which the Malaysian public conduct
routine transactions with Government and private companies. Additional
conveniences offered by the MyKad such as electronic payment applications
are here to make life easier and more convenient, it also aims to improve
the quality of public and payment services.
How does MyKad benefit the government and private sectors workforce?
MyKad will improve Government services while being cost effective.
In the future, standardized data from MyKad can be downloaded thus reducing
paperwork. MyKad will enhance the efficiency and service quality of public
and payment services as payment authorities now have more applications
to offer.
What is a GSC?
A Government Service Centre (GSC) is a one-stop service centre
for any transactions or service pertaining to MyKad. Applicants from all
over Malaysia can apply for the card at any designated GSCs.
What are the services offered at the GSCs?
The services offered by GSC are for the following MyKad related
transactions:
*Application of MyKad
*Replacement of MyKad
*Renewal of Driving License
*Update of applicant's information on the card
*Upload Passport information
*Payment and Update of Summons
Who is eligible for MyKad?
All Malaysian citizens and permanent resident aged 12 and above.
Where can I apply for MyKad?
Apply MyKad at any of the 13 GSCs located at Klang Valley or
any JPN offices nationwide.
What are the steps required should I lose MyKad?
Reapply for a new MyKad at your nearest GSC.
Will MyKad be compulsory to the Malaysian citizen?
For the initial rollout, MyKad will only be optional except for
those who need to reapply due to loss or damage of their current identification
card or changed their address or are applying for an identity card for
the first time.
If I have the old MyKad, how do I get the new 64K chip card?
If you hold a 32K chip card, you can choose to apply for the
64K chip card at any of the Government Service Centres at a minimal fee
of RM20.
Do I have to pay if I convert to the new 64k chip? Do I have
to convert ?
Minimal fee of RM20 will be charged for those who wish to convert
to the 64K chip card. The 64K chip MyKad holders will be able to enjoy
using the 8 applications currently offered by MyKad.
I have got a 64K chip MyKad but without the Touch ‘n Go
Logo. How can I upgrade and where?
You can apply new MyKad at any GSCs counter.
What are the applications available at the moment?
The applications available in MyKad today are identification
information, driving license, passport information, health information,
MEPS Cash, Touch ‘n Go, ATM card and PKI.
How can I check for my card applications status?
Contact the relevant GSC for collection of MyKad.
How long do I have to wait to get my MyKad and in the meantime
can I still use my old IC?
Upon application, processing time for Mykad is about 1 month
and in the meantime the old IC can be used.
If I lose my MyKad, will I loose everything in it? How long before
I get a replacement?
If MyKad is lost, holders will have to report to the following
:
-Nearest JPN office
-Related Bank if MyKad holders’ bank account is personalized in
MyKad
-Since MyKad is also your Touch ‘n Go and MEPS Cash cards, you will
lose the balance value in MyKad
-Replacement of MyKad will take about 1 month
Who can read what application?
Key Ring Readers (KRR) allow ordinary citizens to access basic
information stored in the chip i.e
A larger and more powerful KRR allows only the enforcement officers (PDRM
& JPJ) to access MyKad holders identification and driving license
information.
Mobile CAD are capable of reading cardholder information and conducts
fingerprint verification. Mobile CADs are utilized by enforcement officers
from JPJ, PDRM and KKM to execute enforcement activities pertaining to
their area. Mobile CADs are equipped with SAM (Secure Access Module) slots
to provide enhanced security for information access in the card.
The relevant banks can only read their own specific bank customer account
information
RSSB and MEPS will only able to load value to the chip and are unable
to read any other data
GOVERNMENT APPLICATIONS
Is the Autogate available in KLIA today?
The Autogate is placed at the exit and entry points in Malaysia
to facilitate immigration clearance. Passports are still required for
overseas travel.
Do I need to bring my passport when I load my passport information
at the GSC?
IMM information is available online at the Government Service Centres.
What if my MyKad is lost? Can someone use it to leave the country?
Using MyKad at the autogate requires thumbprint verification
for access.
COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS
How and where do I reload the Touch ‘n Go?
Reload value can be done at any Touch ‘n Go counter or
any BCB /Maybank ATMs.
Can it be used as a normal Touch ‘n Go card? What if I
loose my MyKad, do I loose the Touch ‘n Go value?
MyKad functions like a Touch ‘n Go card. You will loose
your Touch ‘n Go value once you loose your MyKad.
If I have a current Touch ‘n Go card and I want to activate
the Touch ‘n Go application in MyKad, can I transfer the balance
value to MyKad?
The transfer of value can be done at any Touch ‘n Go counters.
How do I activate my ATM application in MyKad?
Go to any participating issuing banks that you have an existing
account and ask to personalize your bank account in MyKad
Which are the participating banks?
Contact any of the inquiring banks : BCB (Tel : 1 300 880 900),
Maybank (Tel : 03 – 20703333), Public Bank (Tel : 1 800 88 3323),
Bank Islam (Tel : 03-26989608), Citibank (Tel : 03- 23830000), Southern
Bank (Tel : 03- 20722919), Hong Leong Bank (Tel : 03- 21642794) and Alliance
Bank (Tel : 03 – 26940000).
If I lose my MyKad, do I have to report to the banks which I
have the accounts in MyKad? Is there a one- stop centre where I can do
a one time reporting rather than informing each individual bank.
If your MyKad is lost, you have to report to the relevant bank
and once you have a new MyKad, you have to personalize again at the respective
bank.
How secure is my bank information in MyKad? What if I lose or
misplace my MyKad?
Your bank account information can only be viewed by the respective
bank for example BCB can only access to your BCB account information and
not any other bank.
What happens if I forget my pin number at the ATM machine, will
my MyKad be swallowed?
MyKad will not be swallowed in any circumstances except for any mechanical
problems at the ATM.
How do I activate the MEPS Cash application?
Take MyKad to any participating banks ATM and load with funds
from your savings or current account. You can then immediately use those
funds in any outlet that accepts MEPS Cash.

Is the amount in the MEPS Cash deducted from my bank account?
Is it a credit card or a debit card?
MEPS Cash application in MyKad functions like a cash card where
you load a certain amount of funds in the card
If I lost my MyKad what happens to my amount in MEPS Cash?
MyKad function like a cash card where any holder of the card
can use the balance fund for purchases. A cash card does not go through
holder verification process.
What is a Public Key Infrastructure?
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) digital certificate is one of
the functions made available in MyKad. As a digital identification, MyKad
holder is able to provide an authentic proof of identity while transacting
over networks such as the Internet. This PKI enabled MyKad will offer
Malaysians to a more interactive transaction with maximum security and
reliability apart from being cost effective.

the certificate?
