Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Communication Systems Engineering), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia

The Department of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering offers a four-year, Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Communication Systems Engineering) programme. The programme has been developed in response to the requirements of fast evolving industry in integrated computer and communication systems engineering. It concentrates on the hybrid of computing and communications (also known as Compucation Engineering) and provides the necessary knowledge and skills for future engineers in related areas and applications. Advancements in computing and communications have made both of the fields to co-exist and co-function in a hybrid manner, which have affected the learning of the traditional computer engineering and communications engineering.

The Objectives and Outcomes of this program ensure that Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Communication Systems) is relevant for the years to come.

The program is accredited by the Malaysian Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and certified by the Board of Engineers, Malaysia. The program goes through a periodical review of every 5 years by the EAC to ensure the continual suitability and relevance to the need of the nation and industry. An integral part of the accreditation is the report by an independent external reviewer/assessor appointed from professors from established and prestigious world class universities. The program assessment and examination processes are carried out annually.

The department is also certified by ISO 9001: 2008 for all operations including matters pertaining to teaching and learning processes. Outcome Based Education (OBE) has also been adopted as the main approach of teaching and learning at the department.

Bachelor of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering Curriculum

The curriculum and programme structure of the Bachelor of Engineering program is designed to focus on knowledge and skills in the integrated field of computer and communications engineering covering a period of 4 years (8 semesters). A total of 138 credit hours are required for graduation, including a 5-credit hour practical training and a 6-credit hour final year project.

Approximately half of the four-year course is common to all engineering students particularly those of the electrical engineering streams. Mathematics and computing are studied in depth with emphasis on the engineering applications whenever relevant. Practical skills in design, development and tests are emphasized in practical courses and computer-aided-design exercises.
