Key Benefits

International education experience

The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a well established pre-university qualification that is offered in many countries outside of Canada. Sunway University first offered the Canadian Matriculation in 1990, and since then, has grown to become one of the largest Canadian Matriculation programmes in the world. Our student population comprises students from more than 70 countries, including Australia, Kenya, Japan, Korea, China and Indonesia, as well as many Middle Eastern and African countries.

When you join the CIMP at Sunway University, you will interact with a large population of local and international students and lecturers. Regardless of ethnicity and culture, students work towards making a positive difference in learning with one another and with the community.

International recognition & scholastic achievements

The CIMP is an internationally recognised pre-university qualification that provides an academic passport to worldwide education. CIMP graduates receive prime university placements in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, India, Singapore and Malaysia.

Our CIMP graduates have received scholarships from well known universities including Monash University Sunway campus, National University of Singapore, Carleton University and Trent University in Canada, University of Wales in the UK and University of Melbourne in Australia to name a few. CIMP students also demonstrate outstanding performance in international competitions – our students have consistently excelled in the Euclid International Math Competition which is a worldwide competition for outstanding young mathematicians. In recent years (2007, 2008 and 2009) CIMP students have been at the top of the list worldwide.

Student-centred curriculum

The CIMP delivers a rigorous academic programme leading to tertiary education along with the opportunity to grow socially and culturally by becoming involved in the many extracurricular activities offered in the programme.

The programme is divided into two semesters. Students in the CIMP normally study 3 to 4 subjects or credits per semester. Each credit subject comprises a minimum of 110 hours of instruction.

Continuous assessment

In the CIMP, the final mark is a product of continuous evaluation; 70% of the final mark is determined through formative assessment (tests, assignments, daily work, etc) and 30% of the final mark is determined through a culmination of learning activities including a final examination.

Parents receive two report cards of their child’s performance, sent out each semester.

Community outreach

The CIMP values the benefits of learning off-site, i.e. learning outside the classroom. We are proud that our students and lecturers commit time for projects with the wider community. Such opportunities allow them to develop better problem solving, communication and leadership skills, and more importantly cross-cultural understanding and responsible citizenship.
