Cempaka International School in Cheras, Selangor, Malaysia

Entry into Cempaka International School is through competitive entrance examinations. From the moment a student is accepted into the School, he/she is initiated into the culture of academic rigour and discipline. Standards are high and competition is keen.

Cempakans’ record in National Public Examinations ever since its inception in 1983 has been impeccable : 100% passes each year in all examinations – the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah rendah (UPSR) at Primary School and both the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) at Secondary School. The School is invariably listed as one of the top schools in these examinations each year and on numerous occasions, Cempakans have topped both the State and National lists and have progressed to win scholarships and gained entry into prestigious universities.

In the International Australian Schools Competitions which is open to thousands of schools in the Asia Pacific region, Cempakans consistently perform well winning Gold medals and High Distinctions each year. Many Cempakans do equally well in the Royal Commonwealth Essay competition, winning prizes, Special and High Distinctions.

As soon as a student becomes a Cempakan, he/she is allocated a School House to which they belong throughout their school career. The first thing he / she will notice is that the fierce competitive spirit in the classroom spills into the field. House spirit is evident throughout the year as the main co-curricular events are all house-based, but the time where it is strongest is during the Annual Games Carnival week and Annual Sports Day where it culminates in the March Past and House Decoration competitions. The houses are entirely run by Cempakans with very little intervention, if any, from the teachers. It is during this time that creativity, organizational skills and ability to work in teams are tested and the results are put in full display. The atmosphere is festive and tension-filled, but always highly enjoyable.

Cempakans also participate in inter-school competitions – soccer, netball, badminton, table-tennis and tennis to name a few. Always among the top schools at swimming in Wilayah Persekutuan, both the Cempaka Primary School and Secondary School teams emerged overall champions in Wilayah Persekutuan in 2000.
