Bachelor of Science (BSc) Applied Geology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur

Increasing global populations are placing unprecedented demands on limited earth resources, whilst extensive and often, uncontrolled development is exposing man to natural hazards that arise from the operation of various earth processes. The need for skilled geologists, especially in light of the current upswing of natural disaster related devastations is imperative for the continued survival of human and natural life. From detailed discussions of plate tectonics to the focus of natural resource exploration, students are educated into the intricacies of geology via lectures, laboratory practicals, tutorials, assignments and field trips.

Graduates in the Applied Geology programme are equipped with an extensive background in all aspects of the earth sciences and will have the ability to carry out individual research. They will have been trained in all aspects of preparing geological reports from the inception of the idea, through data acquisition and analysis as well as formulation and presentation of the results both in verbal and written formats.
