Bachelor of Economics began in 1995. The main objective of this program is to produce skilled manpower in the field of economics to fulfill the requirements for national development and progress.

Employment Opportunities

Graduate in this program are able to get jobs in the private and public sectors. They function as economists, economic planners, teachers, researchers, administrators, managers, entrepreneurs, bankers, etc.

Curriculum Component

The curriculum for Bachelor of Economics is divided to four (4) components: foundation courses, humanity, core and specialization.

The foundation component includes mathematic, statistics, management functions and principles of accounting courses. This component consists of 18 credit hours or 17.1 percent of the total program credit hours.

The humanity component includes professionalism and ethics courses, and communication and language courses. The humanity content consists of 15 hours credits or 14.3 percents from the total program credit hours.

The core component comprises 51 credit hours or 48.6 percent from the total program credit hours. This component consists of Economic History Thinking courses, Malaysia Economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Quantitative Methods and Current Issues. These courses expose candidates to the basic concepts, principles and methods of economics.

The specialization component includes 21 credit hours or 20 percent from the total program credit hours.

Bachelor of Economics offers eight (8) areas of specializations. Each student is required to enroll for 21 credit hours or 20 percent from the total credit hours from one of the following areas:

  • Business Economics

  • Development Economics
  • Resource and Environmental Economics
  • Industrial Economics
  • Hospitality and Recreation Management
