Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering offers a four-year, Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) programme. The programme has been developed in response to the requirements of fast evolving industry in mechanical and manufacturing engineering. It concentrates on the mechanical and manufacturing engineering and provides the necessary knowledge and skills for future engineers in related areas and applications.

The Objectives and Outcomes of this program ensure that Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) is relevant for the years to come.

The programme is accredited by the Malaysian Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and certified by the Board of Engineers, Malaysia. The programme goes through a periodical review of every 5 years by the EAC to ensure the continual suitability and relevance to the need of the nation and industry. Bachelor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Curriculum

The curriculum and programme structure of the Bachelor of Engineering programme is designed to focus on knowledge and skills in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering covering a period of 4 years (8 semesters).

A total of 142 credit hours are required for graduation, including a 5-credit hour industrial training and a 6-credit hour final year project.

Approximately half of the four-year programme is common to all engineering students particularly those of the mechanical engineering streams. Mathematics and computing are studied in depth with emphasis on the engineering applications whenever relevant. Practical skills in design, development and tests are emphasized in practical courses and computer-aided-design exercises.

Students are required to undergo a minimum of 10 weeks of industrial training in private firms or government agencies during the fourth semester holidays. This provides the students with the opportunity to learn at first hand the reality of work in the industry and enables them to see the relevance of the academic programme that they follow.

In the final year, students are given two options for their fields of specialization to suit their interest and preference; Mechanical Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering. Advanced courses such as Powder Metallurgy, Inelastic Analysis, Turbo Machinery, Industrial Tribology, Tool Engineering, Robot Dynamic, Human Factors Engineering, System Modelling and Analysis, Manufacturing Planning and Control System are provided as option and elective courses.
