International School of Kuala Lumpur (Primary) Admissions

Once a completed application is submitted, students will be screened by a member of their faculty. Initial placement is dependent upon age and the child’s previous schooling experience. For all preparatory classes, a student must be the age required by October 1st of the year of entrance. Students with special needs are screened and decisions are made based on the school’s ability to provide an appropriate educational experience. To provide an optional learning environment for all students, the number of students with special needs and English language learners is limited.

To provide each child with an optional learning environment classes are small. The following indicates class size maximums.

  • Prep Reception (3 years old by October 1st) = 12 students
  • Prep Junior (4 years old by October 1st) = 14 students
  • Prep Senior (5 years old by October 1st) = 16 students
  • 1st Grade (6 years old by October 1st) = 18 students
  • 2nd Grade/3rd Grade = 20 students
  • 4th/5th Grade = 22 students

International School of Kuala Lumpur (Primary) Curriculum

International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) uses a standards-based curriculum that specifies what students should know and be able to do. Articulated levels of performance have been determined for each grade level. Curricular standards are available to parents on the school web site, and bi-monthly curriculum letters are sent home to parents detailing specific topics and objectives for a two month period.

International School of Kuala Lumpur (Primary) Assessment

Progress towards grade level performance expectations is assessed in a variety of ways. A combination of teacher observation, class work, common assessment tasks and unit projects are routinely used to monitor learning. At the beginning of each reporting period, the grade level teams develop an assessment map aligned with the curricular standards.

In grades 3 – 5, students take standardized norm-referenced external assessments. Scores helps the school to compare results with other similar schools. Parents will receive individualized reports describing their child’s performance.

International School of Kuala Lumpur (Primary) Reporting

Parent/teacher conferences are conducted twice a year after the 1st and 3rd quarters. During conferences the school review student work, discuss the current level of progress and develop plans for parent involvement during the remainder of the semester. Parents are encouraged to request additional conferences at anytime. At the end of the semester, students who have been enrolled for a minimum of six weeks will receive a comprehensive progress report covering the breadth of our learning program. Individualized comments will be provided in addition to progress indicators based on performance expectations.
