Tropical Spice Garden in Teluk Bahang, Penang

Tropical Spice Garden is situated in what was once an abandoned, rubber plantation along Penang’s north-western shores. It was the vision and determination of David and Rebecca Wilkinson funded by Bertam Consolidated Rubber Co. Ltd. who with a talented team, transformed an overgrown plot into this garden of unique design and soul into a remarkable eco-tourism venture. Visitors can roam the Gardens set out over 8 acres of secondary jungle, and get up close and personal with over 500 species of tropical flora and fauna.

Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is located at the bottom of the KL Tower. Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is known to be the oldest permanent forest reserves in Malaysia. It was declared a forest reserve in 1906 and was known as Bucket Weld Forest Reserve back then.

One of the world’s oldest lowland rainforest resides in Malaysia. The lowland rainforest spreads over two states with a total area of over 92,000 hectare. The state of Johor declared its share of 48,905 hectare as the State National Park in 1989. Thus, Endau – Rompin National Park has become the world’s oldest lowland rainforest.

Taman Negara (National Park) is the first and the oldest official Protected Area in the country, originally named King George V National Park. Declared in 1938 by the Sultans of Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu (during King George’s Silver Jubilee), it was gazetted to preserve the land’s indigenous nature in perpetuity. The park was renamed Taman Negara after the nation gained independence in 1957, which literally means “national park” in Malay.
