Groundwork for the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia dates back to 1956. In managing, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), as it was initially called, a pioneer batch of 11 career diplomats was sent to Britain and Australia for training. In 1966, the Ministry was renamed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and moved from the Sultan Abdul Samad Building to a new complex known as Wisma Putra at Bukit Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government was established on 24 May 1964 as the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. Following a Cabinet reshuffle on 18 July 1978, the Ministry was renamed the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. This was the result of a merger between the Ministry of Housing and Rural Development and the Department of Local Government which was previously part of the Ministry of Local Government and the Federal Territory.

The establishment of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is a manifestation of the country’s aspirations, pursuant to the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was held in Beijing in 1995, and has been implemented in accordance to the document entitled “Platform for Action For The Development of Women towards the Year 2000″.

Ministry of Defence was established on 31 August 1957 and officially began operations in a building located on Brockman Road (now Jalan Dato ‘Onn), Kuala Lumpur. This building also houses offices of the first Minister of Defence Tun Haji Abdul Razak bin Datuk Hussein who served from 31 August 1957 until 22 September 1970.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs(Kementerian Luar Negeri) or Wisma Putra takes care of Malaysia’s international relations and foreign policies. Wisma Putra’s core function is to safeguard Malaysia’s interests and placing Malaysia’s foreign policy to the fore through bilateral diplomacy, open regionalism and participation in the multilateral network of global diplomacy. Malaysia has a network of 105 diplomatic missions spanning around the globe.
