Cherating the famous beach town in Pahang

Cherating is well known beach town in Pahang, Malaysia. It is located 47km north of Kuantan. The town becames famous after Asia’s first “Club Med” opened here which is located in the Club Med village which happens to be one of the best lagoons in the area. Cherating have golden sandy beach and the water is calm.

There is a turtle sanctuary where you can learn about turtles and their life. During the turtle egg laying season between July and August, you might get lucky to witness turtle laying their eggs. Another interesting activity is batik painting where you can try your batik skills by designing and painting your own print on shirts, t-shirts, scarves and sarongs. You might want to take a cruising trip up the Cherating river to watch glowing fireflies.

How to go to Cherating

By car
If you’re coming from Kuantan town, just follow signboards to Kemaman where you will pass Beserah and Balok. If you’re coming from Kuala Lumpur using the East Coast Expressway, you can head straight to Cherating. Follow the expressway and use Exit 836 (Jabur Interchange). After the toll booth, follow signboards to Kemaman. When you’re at Sungai Ular, you will join the main East Coast trunk road and Cherating is just 15 km from there. If you’re coming from Kuala Terengganu, go south along the East Coast trunk road.

By Bus
To/from Kuantan: There are bus companies which operates along the main trunk road between Kuantan and Kemaman nearly every hour during the day. Just take any bus leading to Kemaman and get off the bus on the main trunk road and walk to Cherating village. Kuantan local bus station is located on Jalan Besar.

To/from Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu: There are some interstate buses from Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu which picks up and drop off passengers at Cherating. Just inform the ticketing agents or the bus driver/assistant and they will stop for you to get off the bus at Cherating.

To/from other places: From other towns in Malaysia, just take a bus to Kuantan. From Kuantan, follow the directions above.
