Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia history

The history of health services in the country dates back to before independence. The construction of the hospital at that time was to treat workers in the tin ore industry. Every mine worker has to pay 50 cents a year to get treatment. As the tin ore industry expanded rapidly in Perak, by the end of the 19th century the country had the most hospitals of 15. The hospitals are Taiping Hospital, Teluk Intan, Tapah, Sg. Siput, Slim River, Sri Manjung, Selama, Parit Buntar, Kuala Kangsar, Kampar, Ipoh, Grik, Changkat Melintang, Batu Gajah and Tanjung Rambutan.

Ministry of Health Malaysia continues to grow increasing number of health facilities each year. The ministry is also the reference of neighboring countries in various medical technologies and methods such as the field of Cardiology and Geriatrics. Now the Ministry of Health’s focus is broadening especially on providing fair, accessible and quality health facilities. These developments are in line with changing health patterns, the development of globalized health technologies and liberalization in line with the changing patterns of disease, environmental health and technological developments worldwide.
