Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) & Master of Pharmacy (Hons), Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, Subang Jaya, Selangor

These degree programmes incorporate scientific, clinical and professional knowledge with communications skills to produce outstanding pharmacists who are able to positively impact the healthcare system.

The curriculum provides an in-depth grounding in pharmaceutical sciences, physiology and pharmacy practice. Students will enjoy various learning methods, from problem-based learning to workshops and laboratory work, as well as be exposed to a variety of clinical experience. The central focus of both programmes is on the patient in terms of the application of knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences. The programmes cover four main themes:

  • Pharmacology – The study of how drugs work in living organisms and how the body works in health and disease (incorporating genetics, biochemistry, immunology, physiology, pathology and microbiology)
  • Medicinal Chemistry – The molecular properties of drugs (the active ingredients within medicines) and how to develop safe and effective drugs
  • Drug Delivery – The design, manufacture, evaluation and stability of pharmaceutical products, such as tablets, creams, eye drops and injectables using appropriate quality standards
  • Pharmacy Practice – The development of pharmacists’ professional roles, from interacting with patients and other healthcare professionals to dispensing prescriptions and giving advice on the use of medicines

Graduates will be ready to meet healthcare challenges and lead the discovery and delivery of medicines to enhance and extend human life.

The Pharmacy programme takes two forms:

  • Taylor’s University BPharm (Hons) programme – Delivered entirely in Malaysia; based on the Cardiff University programme with a curriculum adapted in the final two years to exceed the requirements of the Malaysian Pharmacy Board; leads to a Taylor’s University award and Cardiff University Diploma in Higher Education in Pharmaceutical Studies.
  • 2+2 MPharm (Hons) programme – The current MPharm (Hons) at Cardiff University is fully accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (UK). Additionally the 2+2 MPharm (Hons) and BPharm (Hons) programmes have approvals from the General Pharmaceutical Council and Pharmacy Board of Malaysia to enroll students on these programmes from January 2011. The Welsh School of Pharmacy is also recognised by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia. The first two years delivered at Taylor’s University with the final two years delivered at Cardiff University; leads to a Cardiff University award.

The first two years of both programmes are common and delivered in accordance with the requirements of Cardiff University.
