Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia

The Aerospace Engineering Department offers a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) program. The program can be defined as multidisciplinary engineering course with specialization in aircraft and space vehicles. The course integrates knowledge from the field of Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Engineering, Computers and Industrial Studies.

The Objectives (PEO) and Outcomes (PO) of this program ensure that Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) is relevant for the years to come.

The program is accredited by the Malaysian Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and certified by the Board of Engineering, Malaysia. The program goes through a periodical review of every 5 years by the EAC to ensure the continual suitability and relevance to the need of the nation and industry. And integral part of the accreditation is the report by and independent external reviewer/assessor appointed from professors from established and prestigious world class universities. The program assessment and examination processes are carried out annually.

The department is also certified by ISO 9001:2000 for all operations including matters pertaining to teaching and learning process. Outcome Based Education (OBE) has also been adopted as the main approach of teaching and learning at the department.

Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering Curriculum

The curriculum and programe structure of the Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) program is designed to focus on knowledge and skills in the integrated of Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics engineering, Materials and structure engineering, Computer and Industrial Studies. A total of 140 credit hours are required for graduation, including a 5-credit practical training (10 weeks) and 6-credit final year project.

The first year of the four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) course involves introducing the students to the fundamentals of engineering. Among others, this includes courses in Engineering Mathematics, Computer Programming, Aerospace Material and Process, Thermofluids, Statics and Dynamics, and Engineering Drawing.

In the second year of the program, students will further enhance their knowledge in Vibrations, Mechanics of Materials, Aerothermodynamics, electrical and Electronics Technology, Engineering Statistics, Numerical Methods, Aerodynamics, Control Systems, Measurement and Sensors, and Engineering Economics and Cost Accounting.

During the third year, courses in Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures, Avionics, Aircraft Stuctures, Propulsion, Engineering Design, Satellite Technology, Aircraft Stability and Control are introduced. There are also supported by laboratory work. It is also recommended the students to complete an industrial placement for a period of 10 weeks offered by various aerospace industries before continuing to the final year. Students are also having opportunity to conduct industrial training at Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

The final year courses are on Aircraft Design, Aeroelasticity, and Space Mechanics as well as a Final Year project. Students also choose four elective courses either from aeronautical or aerospace engineering subjects.
