Eight months later, the school relocated to the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia where it remained for six years. In June 1971, Dalat moved to its present location in Penang, Malaysia where it became established as Dalat International School in 2002.

Positive togetherness, moments of camaraderie and satisfying relationships are the hallmarks of a Dalat education.

Elementary Curriculum

Based on the belief that children have a natural potential for learning, the curriculum is designed to provide students with skills, concepts, enrichment, and opportunities for self-expression. Instruction in academic areas and special subjects is designed to meet individual needs and accommodate the different learning rates and developmental stages of children.

Some subjects are taught by a specialist teacher outside the homeroom classroom. The elementary classes are closed classrooms with a homeroom teacher.

Middle School Curriculum

The Middle School curriculum is standards driven. This model assures continuity and helps drive a scope and sequence of instruction that is logical and progressive.

Grades 5-8 are considered middle school but is broken down further into intermediate grades (5,6) and middle school (7,8). The program is designed to reflect a gradual transition from the self-contained classroom to the high school format. A basic core of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and Bible are taken daily in all grade levels. In addition, students also take classes in computer, art, study skills, health and band (grades 6-8) each year.

The schedule is also designed to include exploratory classes which are taken on a quarterly basis. In the past these classes have included: leadership, drama, journalism, choir, worship team, and information processing classes. Students in grades 5-8 are placed on Student Advisor Teams (SAT’s). These teams meet for fifteen minutes at the beginning of each day to participate in a variety of team-building activities.

High School Curriculum

Dalat International School provides an American-based education, preparing students for entry into colleges and universities in North America. At the completion of four years of study and 24 units of credit, students receive the American high school diploma.

The curriculum and instruction provide a broad basis in general education and a strong preparation for university systems worldwide.
