The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an examination specially designed to assess a candidate’s competency in the English language for university studies. The IELTS examination is recognised by universities in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. An increasing number of universities in the United States and Canada are also accepting the IELTS score.

Candidates are tested on four skills:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Speaking

The minimum University requirement for IELTS is band 5.5, but most European and Australian Colleges require 6.5 to enter directly into a degree programme.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a competency test in the English language to be taken by students who would like to apply to foreign universities.

Q : Who should sit for the test?
A : Students who would like to study in a University overseas or who would like to migrate.

Q : Where are the IELTS test conducted?
A : At IDP Education Australia and the British Council.

Q : How much is the test fee?
A : RM510.00

Q : How often are IELTS tests conducted?
A : 3 times a month (on Saturdays) throughout the year.

Q : Can the IELTS exam completed in 1 day?
A : The listening, reading & writing components are completed in 1 day. The speaking test can be taken 7 days before or after.

Q : What happens if I’m absent on the test day WITHOUT prior notice?
A : You will lose your full test fee.

Q : Can I postpone or cancel my application?
A : Yes, in not less than 5 weeks from the test date. If not, you will be charged the full fee unless you provide medical evidence to support your claims.

Q : What can a candidate bring into the exam room?
A : Only pens, pencils and erasers.

Q : What documents should I bring for the test?
A : The same identification documents supplied during registration. (Your IC or Passport)

Q : How is the Speaking test conducted?
A : It’s a one-to-one interview which is recorded.

Q : What kind of accents are used in the test?
A : A variety of English accents are used.

Q : Does the listening tape provide the necessary instructions?
A : Yes

Q : How long are IELTS results valid?
A : 2 years from the exam date.

Q : What do I do if I lose my Test Report Form?
A : You can apply to the centre to re-send 5 copies of the original Test Report Form free of charge within 2 years from the exam date. However, it will be sent to the University, Embassy and Consulate.

Q : When will I receive my results?
A : 2 weeks from the test date.

Q : How soon can I retake the test?
A : As soon as you are ready.

Q : How will I be graded?
A : You will be graded according to each component (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing) from a band of 0-9. Then each of the four bands will be added to get the average band which is your overall score band.

Q : What is the minimum band that the University requires?
A : It varies depending on the Universities. Normally the minimum band would be 6 or 6.5
