The International Medical University Malaysia (IMU) is the country’s first and most established private medical and health sciences university with over 22 years of dedicated focus in healthcare education. The University is the first university in Malaysia that offers conventional and complementary medicine, all under one roof. Established in 1992, the University enjoys an international reputation, and provides a high standard of education at pre-university, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development level. Its undergraduate programmes consist of both local tracks (IMU degree), as well as international partner tracks (partner university degree).

International Medical University Malaysia pioneered the world’s first Partner Medical School programme, allowing a student to start their education in Malaysia while completing and earning a degree at an international university. Over the last 22 years, IMU has grown from a medical college with 5 partner universities in 1992, to an internationally recognised higher education institution with more than 30 world class university partners in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, US, Ireland, China and UK. Through this collaboration, IMU has provided the opportunity for more than 3,500 students to complete their degrees at these prestigious universities.

The main campus of IMU is located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since 1999, IMU has established clinical schools in Seremban and Kuala Pilah (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia) as well as Batu Pahat and Kluang (Johor, Malaysia). Currently, the University has over 3,400 students across its various programmes, with about 2,980 students based at Bukit Jalil, while another 420 at the Clinical schools. IMU has also plays host to over 200 international students representing 30 countries worldwide.

IMU’s curriculum for its undergraduate programmes has been benchmarked to international standards and is accepted by international partner universities for credit transfer into relevant programmes.

In its continual quest for academic excellence, moving into research was a natural progression with medical and healthcare-related research, as well as medical education being areas of key focus. IMU’s research efforts are expected to be further enhanced now that the Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI) has been launched in September 2012.

The university had a major breakthrough in 2010 with the start of its Healthcare Centres which allowed IMU’s staff and students to receive and treat patients. The Healthcare Centres, which serve as a teaching site for IMU students, bring the disciplines of allopathic (Western) medicine and those of complementary and alternative medicine together under one roof.

Diploma in Nursing

The Diploma in Nursing is a 3-year programme offered by the International Medical College (IMC). The programme is designed to prepare students to be competent Registered Nurses. Nursing practicals form the integrative strand of the curriculum. Students of this diploma programme will obtain clinical experience at the Pantai Group of Hospitals and other approved Government Hospitals as well as Healthcare Centres.

International Medical University Malaysia Scholarships and Financial Aid

The International Medical University offers scholarships for its pre-university and undergraduate programmes. Malaysian and International students who demonstrate academic excellence will be invited to apply through their offer letter. Awarded annually, the scholarships are in the form of tuition fee waiver.
