With a fundamental understanding of the human capital needs of industry, government, and society, Manipal Education has embarked on an ambitious journey to establish an international university – Manipal International University in Malaysia.

Manipal Education and Malaysia have had a long and abiding relationship which has extended over 50 years. Up until now, students from Malaysia have predominantly studied at the top-ranked Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India, and at Melaka-Manipal Medical College. The product of these institutes overthe past five decades has been astounding: over 4,000 medical doctors in Malaysia have been groomed by Manipal Education. Now, however, MIU will further its scope of education by offering programmes in engineering business and life sciences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Manipal International University (MIU) is a multidisciplinary university dedicated to addressing the human capital needs of the globe in a 21st-century context. It is through the multidisciplinary nature of the university that MIU envisions to create an environment which would produce sufficient talent to sustain economic growth in this region.

MIU is founded on the pillars of engineering and management education, while also providing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in other disciplines such as life sciences, commerce, law, animation, tourism and hospitality, to name a few. The first period of enrolment, expected in September, 2011, for MIU’s engineering, business and biotechnology programmes will be around 600 students, and the university is expected to expand to 20,000 students by year 2020. MIU will attract international students from ASEAN countries, North Asia, India, the Middle East and Central Asia; over a period of time MIU expects up to 50% of its student population to be from outside Malaysia. The courses offered at MIU will be professionally aligned and incorporate close collaboration with major players in various industries.
