Nexus International School Curriculum

Nexus International School, Putrajaya, is the first school in Putrajaya to offer a truly international option. A select group of highly qualified teachers from around the world have been chosen to facilitate learning through a future-oriented, learning-focused curriculum based on the highly-appraised International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and the British National Curriculum. In Secondary, a British based syllabus is offered with cross curricular links that prepares students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

The school aims to help children learn academically, socially, spiritually, emotionally and physically – building on the philosophy that children will need a very different set of skills for the 21st Century. Incorporating ICT (Information and Communications Technology) facilities into a blend of creative hands-on activities and a thematic cross-curricular approach has proven to be a highly developed learning experience that involves the child, parent and teacher.

The focus on highly interactive methods of teaching prepares children with the right skills to become independent-thinkers, lifelong learners.

Nexus International School Early Years: Nursery & Reception

The Early Years follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which gives a high priority to the process of learning through practical, first-hand experiences.

Well-planned play, both inside and outside, is a key way in which young children learn with enjoyment and are appropriately challenged. There are also opportunities for children to record and develop early reading, writing and number skills in a creative and imaginative way with effective adult support.

Nexus International School Primary

In the Primary Department at Nexus International School, Putrajaya, children learn through the International Primary Curriculum which is interactive and engaging for learners (from 3 – 11 years old). Primary children at all levels integrate the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) across all their learning. The Primary school makes provision for learners from Early Years (Nursery & Reception) to Year 6.

International Primary Curriculum
Through the IPC, all Primary children are exposed to a series of engaging and exciting topics in a fun and interactive manner. These topics are designed to give the students the chance to practise and refine their skills of researching, questioning, challenging, analysing, enquiring, reporting, presenting and collaborating in team work.

Each topic has been carefully selected by the schools staff to cover a full programme throughout each Key Stage. Over an extended period of time, usually around 5-7 weeks, a single unit of study will allow the teacher to deliver a number of learning goals drawn from the IPC. These goals cover the subjects of History, Geography, Science, Art, Design, IT, PE, Music and Society as well as, uniquely, Personal & International goals.

Your child’s teacher will inform you about which units of work the class will study during the year through an informative, regular curriculum letter. It will be clear which Learning Goals are being addressed in that unity of study. Parents are encouraged to be involved with their children in the IPC work. Children integrate the use of ICT seamlessly into their learning and use portable Macbooks to assist with both researching and recording of learning.

The IPC is adopted by all Primary year groups from Early Years to Year 6.

Nexus International School Secondary

The Secondary Department at Nexus International School will maintain the philosophy built in the Primary years. However, the learning programme at this level becomes slightly more specialised; developing greater independence of thought, identity and value systems. ICT will continue to be integrated into all facets of learning at the Secondary level. The Secondary School makes provision for learners from Years 7-9 and (I)GCSE (Years 10-11).

Secondary Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to challenge learners to think independently and apply knowledge to real life situations through the range of subjects offered. As they progress through Years 7 to 9, they should become self-motivated and enquiring learners, ready to take on the challenges of the (I)GCSE examination courses. The subjects offered at Nexus International School, Secondary Department include the following:

  • Mathematics
  • English
