Sri Kuala Lumpur International School (Sri KL) in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

Sri Kuala Lumpur International School (Sri KL) is a private school ideally located on 5.7 acres of prime land in the heart of Subang Jaya on Jalan SS15/7A. The school complex consists of three blocks. Each block has four floors and a combined total of 72 classrooms.

Pre-School

Sri KL runs a 2-year integrated programme for pre-schoolers and Level One is the ideal start if your child has never been to school before. Because the transition from pre-school to primary school is such an important one, Level Two provides sound and effective preparation for Primary Year One.

Primary School

Sri KL Primary School will continue the KBSR curriculum for Standards 4, 5 and 6 until the end of Academic year 2014 after which the KBSR will be replaced by the CIPP for all levels. The main medium of instruction for KBSR is Bahasa Melayu closely supported by English.

Mathematics, Science and Information Technology are all taught in English. Each subject syllabus ensures that students are well prepared for the public examinations and at the same time are allowed to explore more challenging topics that will stimulate accelerated learning and deeper comprehension.

Traditional and creative approaches to teaching and learning are employed with equal emphasis on project work and internal examinations.

A strong moral code is emphasized in the children’s social development which is supported by charity work, field trips and international exchange programmes to further broaden their experience of the global environment.

CIPP (Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3)

Sri KL has been awarded membership of the Cambridge International Primary Programme by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and will operate the CIPP for Years 1, 2 and 3 for Academic Year 2011. By Academic year 2014 all levels of the Primary School will be using the CIPP curriculum.

The School uses the International Primary Programme which helps teachers develop Mathematics, English and Science skills and knowledge in children from the ages of six to eleven. The CIPP provides guidance for curriculum development and classroom teaching and learning and enables teachers to assess the progress of the students.

Ann Puntis, the Chief Executive of University of Cambridge International Examinations commented, ” We are delighted that Sri Kuala Lumpur International School is using an international curriculum that will be providing young students with the best possible education. By implementing the CIPP, the school is using an international curriculum that will be of great benefit to their students.”

The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14 to 9 year olds. CIE offers a broad range of qualifications, created for an international audience. CIE qualifications include Cambridge IGCSE and International A/AS EIE qualifications are taken in 150 countries and recognised by universities, educational providers and employers across the world.

CIE is part of the Cambridge Assessment Group, a non-profit organisation and part of the University of Cambridge. CIE has a strong pedigree in development and research – it was the first exam board to develop the IGCSE 20 years ago. The CIE constantly review their provision and introduce new subject areas and qualifications. CIE offers unrivalled support to its network of registered Centres.

Secondary School

Sri KL Secondary School follows both the local KBSM curriculum and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), commonly known as O’levels. For both KBSM and O’levels each subject syllabus ensures that students are well prepared for the public examinations whilst allowing them to explore more challenging topics that will stimulate deeper comprehension and strengthen their desire to be life-long learners.

A full-time professional student counselor is always on hand to advise students on career choices or study techniques and to provide pastoral care and a listening ear when it’s needed.

There is a strong moral element to the students’ social development which is supported by charity work, field trips and international exchange programmes to further broaden their experience of the global environment.

KBSM
The main medium of instruction is Bahasa Malaysia closely supported by English. Mathematics, the Sciences and Information Technology are all taught in English Form One to Form Five. At Form Four students are given the option to switch to the IGCSE syllabus or continue on to sit for the local SPM examinations in Form Five.

O’ Levels
Sri KL Secondary School’s O’Level (IGCSE) programme is provided by the Cambridge International Examinations syndicate which is affiliated to Cambridge University. All subjects are taught in English with greater exposure to English literature than the local KBSM syllabus.

O’ Levels (Year 7 – Year 9 Programme)
In 2009, Sri Kuala Lumpur implemented the Lower Secondary Programme, a three year course, which forms the foundation for the IGCSE programme (Year 10 & 11) which is equivalent to the GCE O-Levels. This Lower Secondary programme is based on the British Curriculum and will culminate in students being entered for the Check Point Examination in Year 9. The programme is under the moderation of the University of Cambridge International Examination Board and is internationally recognised.

Check Point Examination
This is an examination that is offered to all students at the end of the Lower Secondary years, that is, Year 9. The subjects offered are English, Mathematics and Science. This is a diagnostic test and is intended for students of about 14 years of age. The test provides feedback to the students and teachers on the strengths and weaknesses of the individual students in the key curricular areas in these three subjects.
