At Sunway University, we prepare students for the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level qualification through examinations by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).CIE is one of the world’s leading providers of international qualifications and assessments, and is a part of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) which has developed and promoted qualifications around the world for almost 150 years.

The GCE A Level qualification places emphasis on knowledge, understanding, reasoning abilities and skills. It is one of the most recognised pre-university qualifications in the world and is accepted as proof of academic ability for entry into world-class universities in the United Kingdom, USA, Singapore, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Malaysia, to name a few.

Many of our A Level graduates have been accepted by premier universities like Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, the London School of Economics, Durham, Harvard, Princeton, Boston, Stanford, Duke, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Monash and the National University of Singapore.

Sunway’s A-Level programme follows the new structure of examinations: Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Level (A2). Students are prepared for the examinations in 2 phases, which takes away the pressure of one set of final examinations at the end. The standard 1.5-year programme comprises 3 semesters, each about 6 months long. Students will sit for their AS examinations at the end of Semester Two and their A2 examinations at the end of Semester Three.

Sunway University has been awarded the Fellowship Centre status since 2005 in recognition of our excellent delivery system and attainment of top of the world results in examinations.

The GCE A Level is globally recognised pre-university qualification and Sunway University has an established tradition of academic excellence and track record of good results. In the past CIE June and November examinations, the overall pass rates were consistently above 97.5% with at least 27% of our students achieving 3 A grades or more. Our students are also recipients of the Top Student Awards from CIE. From as far back as 1998, our A-Level performance has garnered awards for Biological Science, Business subjects and Mathematics, Physics, General Paper, Chemistry and Economics. In the June 2009 examination session, Sunway University students garnered the Top in the World awards for Physics and Accounting.

Academic depth & rigour

The A Level curriculum offers comprehensive coverage in the breadth and depth of a subject. Students are assessed for their mastery of content, and the ability to think critically and apply knowledge to solve problems. Students taking science subjects will also be assessed in terms of their practical or laboratory skills. Our lecturers are highly qualified, experienced and committed. They have taught the A Level programme for many years, and they provide valuable resources and advice when guiding students through the programme, to achieve good grades and secure admission into prestigious universities.

Mentor-Mentee System

To foster closer relationship between teachers and students and to ensure closer monitoring of students’ general progress, each teacher mentor will have under him/her a number of mentees whom he/she will see at scheduled times. The mentor will also be responsible for writing references for students applying for university entrance or requiring references or testimonials.
