Mont’Kiara International School (M’KIS) is a North American curriculum K-12 school located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organization. The school provides a caring, student-centered environment where the values of tolerance, appreciation and respect for human dignity are highly prized.

The Elementary School

M’KIS Elementary School serves students in Kindergarten Preparatory (KP – 3 & 4 years old) upward through grade five (10 & 11 years old). The school strive to meet the demands of an ever-changing world by promoting the M’KIS School Mission, Beliefs, and their Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs). Elementary school programs and policies are based on these core documents which define M’KIS.

The Middle School

The middle school years, grades six to eight, are a time of exploration. In middle school, students are just starting to know themselves, their friends and the world around them in a deeper and more meaningful way. Accordingly, the middle school program at M’KIS is designed to guide and support students through this dynamic transitional period.

The High School

The high school program equips graduates with the ability to access top universities worldwide. In accomplishing this, the high school has been a source of immense pride for the school. M’KIS offers two distinctive and rigorous high school programs, the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, and the U.S. high school diploma.

School Facilities

Mont’Kiara International School houses extremely high quality facilities, providing an excellent physical learning environment for students. M’KIS enjoys an inviting and attractive campus setting, with beautifully designed classroom buildings punctuated by green spaces throughout. Housed in a park like setting in the midst of the bustling suburb of Mont’Kiara, the school is an oasis of greenery for all to enjoy.

The school boasts very modern facilities with purpose built facilities for all programs, including areas for instruction in the ELL program and the enrichment centre. Eight computer laboratories (4 fixed, 3 mobile and the research centre in the Library Media Centre) house the necessary hardware to fully integrate IT into the instructional day. Fully equipped science laboratories exist for earth science, chemistry, biology, physics and physical science. The Arts Education program is fully supported via several general music rooms, a band room, three art rooms, a dance theater plus a fully equipped ceramics room. The gymnasium is one of the centerpieces to the school and the physical education facilities comes complete with two fields, a well equipped fitness centre, a climbing wall and a pool. Mont’Kiara International School’s 440 seat state of the art theatre houses all manner of artistics events for the entire school community.

Mont’Kiara International School has 24 hour security, provided by security personnel employed by the school. M’KIS is a gated school community with state of the art security devices installed throughout the school.

The Elementary School wing has 28 classrooms, five English Language Learners (ELL) classrooms, three Learning Center classrooms, Art Room, Band Room, Choir Room, two Elementary Music classrooms, Gymnasium, three World Language classrooms, one Malaysian Studies classroom, two IT labs, Library Media Center, Elementary Administration Office, Physical Education Office and a Student Support Services Office.

The Middle School wing houses 34 classrooms plus one computer lab and science lab. The high school wing contains 15 classrooms, computer labs, art room, ceramics room, and laboratories for earth science, chemistry, biology, physics and physical science.

Student Services

Library Media Center
The M’KIS Library Media Center (LMC) is open to parents and children throughout the day. The LMC offers students the opportunity to locate information for courses as well as to read and relax with magazines or books. The LMC offers fiction and non-fiction books and a variety of reference materials including videos and electronic material. A card operated photocopy machine is available to students for making copies of printed materials.

Health Office
The Health Office is located next to the Administration Office. It is open from 8:00am to 4:45pm Monday – Friday. A professional school nurse is available to offer first aid and medical assistance to students, health guidance, and referrals to parents.

Lockers
Each middle / high school student is assigned one locker with combination locks at the beginning of the school year in the hallway. Students are encouraged not to bring expensive or valuable items to school.

Textbooks
Textbooks are on loan to students and must be returned in good condition once a course has been completed. Students must pay for textbooks that are not returned or those that are damaged. The prices to replace lost textbooks vary, and the cost of shipping is factored into the replacement costs.

Busing
Busing service to / from most areas around the school is available in the morning and in the afternoon. Bus service is also available in the afternoon for KP / KPA students who remain after school until 4:00pm for special activities. A fee schedule for various services is available in the Administration Office, along with application forms, rules, and additional information regarding parental responsibility, supervision, breakdown policy, routing, and instructions concerning problems that may arise.

M’KIS Cafe
The M’KIS Cafe is available for students to make purchases on a variety of healthy lunch items: milk, juice, fruits, and desserts on a debit card basis in the cafe. Students may also bring their own lunches.

Student Store
The student store sells school supplies, school uniforms and other non-compulsory items during the school day.
